What
are Poetry Elections? And Why?
We
wanted to try to create some involvement and interaction around
local poetry. We believe that poetry can influence and advance
the cultural identity of an area and by involving the people of
that area in selecting a voice to represent them in poetry, the
process becomes more inclusive towards the people who are in fact,
paying to support the arts through taxation.
What
will the Poole Poet have to do?
The Poole Poet will be asked to attend some of the events during
the course of Poole Word and Book Festival and to write a poem
during and for the festival. Then there shuld be a poem written
as a grand finalé piece, to be published in
The Echo newspaper for the last day of the festival. The
Poole Poet will then be the first port of call for all suitable
official writing duties and commissions for the Borough of Poole
during the following year. It is a prestigious post and one that
we were proud to announce on the night of Thursday 30th September.
